Back to Basics
After a day off, I was hoping Frankie was refreshed and that we could start the week seeing eye to eye.
It was hot and humid today, but by the time I got out to ride the temperature had at least gone down even if the air did feel more like a liquid.
Outside it was gonna be. I put the Myler loose ring on with the standing martingale.
Right away I got a pretty good walk, without even really asking.
Knowing we had such difficulty with downward transitions I decided to start from scratch. So we worked on walk to halt. Surprisingly it started out a little difficult. Tense and taking about 4 walk strides to get the halt. Frankie bracing against the bit with full force. After about 5 bad halts, they started improving until I was getting perfect halts.
Then we started trotting. The upward transition was pretty good and he had plenty of motor. This is when I decided to be a rail digger. Yep, no circles today. Just round and round we went. I was one of those riders. Clinging to the rail with all my might.
We worked on transitions up and down halt through trot. He was really good. Then we moved up to canter. He was great. All transitions up and down were the best they have been. We did not deviate from the rail today, not once.
Good ride.
Ride time 30 minutes.
